Fade Away Unwanted Ink With Saline Tattoo Removal
Are you tired of living with unwanted tattoos or permanent makeup that no longer suits your style? We have an effective and natural solution to remove that unwanted ink: saline tattoo removal.
In this blog post, we will explore the saline tattoo removal process, its benefits, and why saline removal might be the right choice for you!
What Is Saline Tattoo Removal?
Saline tattoo removal operates on the principle of osmosis. By introducing a high-concentration saline solution into the area with unwanted pigment, the natural osmosis process draws water from the body's cells toward the saltier solution.
The upward movement of water also lifts the tattoo pigment to the surface. The pigment becomes trapped in the resulting scab, which falls off during the healing process, effectively removing the ink.
Our permanent makeup artists use Li-FT® Saline Removal Solution, which harnesses the power of high salt content and fruit seed extracts to lighten tattoos or permanent makeup until they vanish.
Developed by skilled female chemists at Li Pigments, the solution is crafted from natural, clean salts blended in specific ratios for superior results.
Aloe Vera and Calendula Extract are incorporated to encourage faster healing and minimize scarring, making it an exceptional choice for gentle and efficient tattoo removal.
Saline Tattoo Removal vs Laser Tattoo Removal
Both methods effectively remove unwanted ink, but their processes and effects differ significantly:
Laser tattoo removal uses focused laser energy to break up the ink particles beneath the skin. It relies on the body’s immune system to flush these broken particles out over time. In contrast, saline removal pulls the ink up to the surface through osmosis, forming a scab that takes the pigment with it as it heals.
Laser treatments can struggle with certain colors, particularly light shades like yellow or white. Different lasers are required for different pigments. Saline removal works on all pigment shades, making it ideal for tattoos with a wide range of colors or cosmetic tattoos that contain lighter inks.
The Benefits of Saline Tattoo Removal
This method of tattoo removal offers a less invasive option for those with sensitive skin. It provides many benefits, including:
Safe for all skin types
Natural ingredients
It is less painful than laser removal
It can be used on various tattoo pigments
Minimal risk of scarring or damage to surrounding skin
The Saline Tattoo Removal Process at the Beauty Block
A permanent makeup artist will first assess your skin and tattoo to determine if saline removal is right for you. Here is what you can expect at the appointment:
Preparation: We start by cleansing the treatment area. We do not use numbing agents unless absolutely necessary, as they can cause vasoconstriction, which may impede optimal blood flow and results. Most clients describe the sensation during the procedure as "spicy" but tolerable.
Application: We tattoo a specialized saline solution (Li-Ft) into the skin using a tattoo machine. Typically, 3–4 passes are made over the area, allowing for deep penetration of the solution.
Soaking: The solution is left to soak into the skin for about 10 minutes to start breaking down and lifting the pigment.
Cleansing: After the soaking period, any leftover saline solution is gently removed using Hale Derma or an over-the-counter saline-soaked cotton round, then patting the area dry.
Immediate Reaction: Post-procedure, the treated area will likely appear bright red. It is a normal part of the healing process and indicates that the body's natural response to the procedure has begun.
Saline Tattoo Removal Aftercare
The treated area will form a crust or scab. It is crucial to let the scabs remain intact for as long as possible, as they help in "pulling" or "lifting" the pigment out of the skin.
The aftercare for removal is quite simple:
Avoid applying any ointment post-procedure, and keep the area as dry as possible, except for cleansing.
The area should be gently blotted with a dampened cotton round using an over-the-counter saline solution 2–3 times daily.
Avoid saturating with water or exfoliating until scabbing is complete.
Once scabs fall off naturally, it is recommended to start massaging in vitamin E oil or a healing balm, like the Scar Soothing Balm from Beauty by B, twice daily (morning and night).
After the scabs fall off, you'll notice the tattoo lightening. Final results may take up to 6 weeks to see. The number of sessions needed varies based on pigment depth, types used, and client preference. Typically, full removal takes 3 to 4 sessions spaced six weeks apart.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is saline tattoo removal painful?
The sensation during the procedure is often described as "spicy" or slightly uncomfortable, but most clients find it tolerable without using numbing agents.
What types of tattoos can be removed with saline?
Saline tattoo removal can be used on cosmetic and traditional body art. It is effective on various pigments, including black ink, colored ink, and even stubborn or resistant pigments. However, it may not be suitable for certain types of tattoos that are larger in size, or that involve a lot of cover-up work.
How long does the healing process take?
The initial lightening will be noticeable once the scabs have fallen off in about 7-10 days. The total healing process underneath the surface of the skin can take up to 6 weeks, depending on the individual's response and depth of pigment.
Are there any side effects?
Most clients experience redness and some experience mild swelling or “puffiness” in the treated area immediately post-procedure, which is a normal part of the healing process. In rare cases, there may be some temporary skin discoloration or scarring.
How much does saline tattoo removal cost?
At The Beauty Block, prices start at $150 per session for small tattoos, with larger designs requiring more extensive work costing more. A typical eyebrow tattoo removal session is approximately $200 per session.
