Cosmetic Injectable FAQs

Neuromodulators (Botox® and Dysport® are available as treatment options)

What is the difference between Botox® and Dysport®?

Most neuromodulators are often referred to as "Botox," but this is actually the brand name. Botox® and Dysport® are both FDA approved and are typically used in aesthetics to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

They both have the same mechanism of action if treated cosmetically to reduce or soften wrinkles, but clients may respond slightly differently to either treatment.

Your injector will perform a comprehensive assessment to determine which injectable may be best suited for your anatomy to meet your desired aesthetics goals.

How long do results last for?

Neuromodulator treatment typically will last 2-4 months for most clients (depending on the area being treated). In some cases it may even last longer.

There are several variables which can affect the longevity of your treatments such as dosing, anatomy, dietary, stress, if you are very active or if you are subject to heat/sweating often. Your injector will review the expected longevity of specific areas during your appointment.

Does Botox® and Dysport® injections hurt?

Most clients describe the injection to feel like "popping a pimple" or a "tiny insect bite." Some clients stated that they do not even feel some of the injections during treatment.

If you are very nervous with needles or for treatment in general, make sure to inform you injector and they can provide some comfort measures.

How long does Botox® and Dysport® injections take?

The treatment itself typically takes 5-10 minutes to perform (depending on number of areas treated). Some clients will even pop in on their lunch or coffee break to seek repeated treatments.

First time appointments will typically take a little longer as we will review your medical history, previous treatments, procedure expectations, cost quotation, pre/post care instructions, expectations of treatments, etc.

Filler Treatments (JUVÉDERM®, Teosyal®  and Revanesse®  are available)

Will filler treatment make me look fake or puffy?

The short answer is NO. When you see people with more puffy appearance, it is likely due to a number of reasons.
A) Their provider did not know when to say "No" to another treatment
B) Maybe they have a multiple treatment with multiple injectors - "shopping around for more filler"
C) They may have had several different types of fillers and maybe even surgical intervention that has possibly distorted their natural appearance.

Your injector, Carissa, is highly trained and is more on the conservative side of treatments. The goal is always to enhance and restore your natural beauty, not take away from it.

Does filler treatment hurt?

Most clients tolerate filler treatments very well and do not find the injections to be painful. Often the next day or later that day after treatment, clients may feel a little tender or sensitive to those areas.

If you are very nervous with needles or for treatment in general, make sure to inform your injector. She can provide comfort measures such as numbing agents, distractions techniques (squeeze ball, or Vibrata tool), or ice when needed.

Some areas can be a little more "spicy" than others such as the lip area, but often very well tolerated with a numbing agent.

Will filler injections cause bruising or swelling?

Most often, yes clients may have some bruising and swelling to areas treated. Do not plan your filler treatment right before a big event (at least 2 weeks prior is optimal).

Bruising and swelling can vary from no bruising to severe bruising.Typically this bruising will only last a few days post treatment, but depending on severity, it can last over a week+.  Swelling is often minimal, but can last up to 2 weeks+ depending on the area treated and how much product is used.

To prevent bruising, try the following:

  • avoid Advil or any blood thinning medications prior to treatment (if able).  PLEASE consult with your physician prior to stopping any medications.**

  • avoid alcohol or caffeine / caffeinated drinks 24-48 hours prior and post treatment

  • avoid excessive heat like hot showers, hot tub, hot yoga, sauna/steam room for at least 48 hours after treatment

  • avoid exercise 48 hours after filler treatments

  • can apply arnica gel or take arnica supplements to help reduce any bruising at a potentially quicker rate
